The value of diversity & inclusion in the workplace
“I plan on being more emphatic to my coworkers and my students especially because I truly do know the feelings that they are experiencing. I often battle those feelings alone so I don’t want them to feel the same.”
“Consider student and family differences in values and personalities as I communicate and work with them.”
“Being empathetic to students means maybe not knowing what they are going through but certainly not diminishing their needs. Ex: Middle School drama to me seems so minor now, but it is their whole life. I need to recognize and care about that.”
What are the core concepts?
This program serves as a great introduction for districts to begin addressing DEI topics through an empathetic leadership lens. The program focuses on providing general DEI definitions then, walking district staff through an in-depth analysis that leads toward the creation of specific, measurable goals around identified areas of improvement for DEI.
Who is this program geared for?
It’s best to start with district admin and board members then, provide the program for district certified and classified staff. Finally, in year 3, provide programming for high school students.
How long is the program?
The program is typically 10-hours in length for admin/board, 6 to 8-hours for staff, and 8, 45-minute sessions for students.
What is the program cost?
The program cost is dependent on number of participants and sessions. For district administrators/board with about 40 participants, an average cost is about $12,000.
What program materials are included?
Schools receive access to a resource guide online which includes all program data from the analysis work that is done in programs, access to PowerPoints, videos, and the curriculum guide handout that is used during the program. We also provide an impact report that is created based on the pre/post-survey.
